India is a culturally and demographically complex country. In fact, according to a survey conducted by the consulting and advisory firm Deloitte, India is the second most complex law jurisdiction only after China in the Asia Pacific. To add to the woes of the already existing upheavals on the laws front in the country, the Government of India finally introduced the Goods and Service Tax Act (GST Act) on the 1 st of July 2017. It is indeed acclaimed to be the most complex law enacted in India, definitely after the Criminal Laws in India!
This “complexity” issue is the main reason that even after a year after its introduction; it’s still turning people’s stomach to ice. Therefore, there is an immediate need to address the same by way of education of the important and relevant provisions of GST Act on a macro level rather than restricting it to the professional or industry level.
With the revolutionary change in the use of Internet and World Wide Web, the technology needs to be put to use for the purpose of education freely by the experts by way of online sharing of knowledge with the people in general. In fact, students pursuing financial and professional courses to the likes of Chartered Accountancy should see this as an opportunity to get the first mover advantage by educating themselves on real time updating the GST knowledge constantly by following the frequent notifications, press releases and bulletins issued by the GST Council with regard to the updating and correction in the GST Act. This will make sure that they are ready to advise and provide consultancy to the prospective clients and maybe even make a living out of it. Because how will all the experts make their living if the Laws were too easy and non-complex!
So, let it be resolved that everyone takes up an online GST course as and when one gets time. Not just for the sake of knowledge and certifications, but for opening up a possibility of testing deeper waters and better opportunities that GST will offer in the future for sure!
